Gaozhaitian Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Yue Senxun and Jiang Rong (1944) created the Gaozaitian Gr. The type section is located at Gaozaitian near Wudang, north of Guiyang City.
Synonym: (高寨田组); Kaochaitien Fm
Lithology and Thickness
In the type section area, the formation is nearly 300 m in total thickness and can be subdivided into two members. Lower member, 147 m thick, is dominated by yellow green, yellow mudstone intercalated with pelitic siltstone, and, in addition, with minor marl in the upper part as well. Upper member, nearly 300 m in thickness, is composed of purplish red, rarely grey green, mudstone and siltstone of about 10 m in thickness in the lower part, and of grey, grey green, yellow green mudstone intercalated with marl in the upper part.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It disconformably contacted with the underlying Huanghuachong Fm of the Ordovician System.
Upper contact
It disconformably contacted with the overlying Wudang Fm of the Lower Devonian.
Regional extent
The Gaozaitian Fm is exposed in Guiyang, Longli and Guiding.

Fossils
In the Housuo section at Wudang of Guiyang City, the upper part, composed of purplish red, grey green marl and grayish white fine grain sandstone and quartzose sandstone, yields cephalopod Sichuanoceras, brachiopod Nucleospira, Atrypoidea, Howellella, Striispirifer, Nikiforovaena and anthozoa Ketophyllum, Zelophyllum, Tabularia, etc., conodont the representative elements of both the Pterospathodus celloni zone of the upper part and the Spathognathodus parahassi-S. guizhouensis zone of the lower part.
